Menu :: Alia :: A few handfuls of sand :: Lençóis Maranhenses

This is in the north of Brazil, near the Atlantic ocean coast in the Maranhão state, that lies the Lençóis Maranhenses national parc, or Sheets of the Maranhão in Portuguese.
This micro-desert is an area of about 600 mi2 covered with dunes, between which lagunas are formed from tropical rains during the rain season, from January to July. We get there the impression of a beach spreading inland (the parc measures about 15 miles in its widest width), with natural basins of fresh water around which plants gather and in which fishes coming who knows from are thriving.
